• Frequency: Sessions will be held Weekly on Wednesdays 12:00 PM ET.

• Duration: The Sprint will run for 6 weeks.

• Audience: City staff empowered to establish relationships across different departments in the city, such as Chiefs of Staff, Chief Data Officers, Directors of Planning, Heads of Innovation of Technology, and staff involved with civic engagement and transparency initiatives. 

• Language: English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Maintaining a comprehensive data inventory

This Sprint focuses on creating data quality standards and associated documentation in local governments. Participants will apply a Data Quality Management Framework to their own context, implement internal data standards, understand the steps to conduct data quality audits, and publish datasets following data quality standards. These efforts aim to enhance data management practices, promote interoperability, increase transparency, and ensure better data quality across the local government.

The Sprint will help cities to achieve the following criteria:

• DM4.1: Your local government implements processes to document the provenance, collection methodology &/or known quality issues with datasets & to improve identified data quality problems (i.e., conducting regular data quality audits, establishing feedback channels for data users, etc.).

• DM4.2: Your local government documents standards for internal data in order to improve internal interoperability, so that certain common fields (e.g., street address) are consistent across the organization.

• DM4.3: Your local government has implemented & published datasets that conform with at least one civic data standard (e.g., GTFS) in order to improve external interoperability.

• DM4.4: Your local government produces high-quality & complete metadata for both protected and openly published datasets.
  
  

At the end of the Sprint, participants will have:

• Created or Improved a Data Provenance and Quality Management Framework

• Documented Internal Data Standards within the local government.
