As cities' use of data and new technologies accelerate, municipal responsibilities for privacy, cybersecurity, equity, and accountability become more complex. This sprint will cover how cities can adapt best practices for privacy, security, and public engagement to ensure public trust in their use of emerging technologies. The evaluation commitments discussed are DM 5 Privacy and DM 6 Cybersecurity.
By the end of the sprint, participants will be ready to:
- Conduct public engagement on the technologies they use (or plan to use)
- Implement a privacy program
- Apply cybersecurity guidance
- Adapt procurement to strengthen privacy, equity, and security
- Work collaboratively across relevant intra-government agencies
- Hire a CISO
- Adopt a city-wide commitment to digital rights
- Lay the groundwork for responsible use of data analytics and AI
Within a year, participants could:
- Lead city-wide trainings on privacy and cybersecurity
- Integrate digital rights thinking into policy, procurement, and practice
