OVERVIEW

In this 6-week course, you and a team of participants from your city will scope an evaluation. You will create a document that outlines a clear vision for an evaluation project, including:

  • What you want to evaluate and why

  • An overview of the program you are evaluating, including a

  • theory of change

  • Specific research questions you want to answer

  • A list of data sources you can use to answer those research questions

This evaluation proposal can be used to seek internal approval for the evaluation project or to hire an external evaluator. It is the first step to help you answer important questions, such as:

  • What’s the impact of the program?

  • Was the program implemented as planned?

  • Is the program working like it’s supposed to?

This course is part of a 2 course series:

  • Part 1: Scope an Evaluation (September 2024)
  • Part 2: Create an Evaluation Plan (October -
    November 2024)

SESSION DATES & TIMES

All sessions are Wednesdays from 2-3 PM Eastern Time (September 4, September 11, September 18, September 25, and October 2). Each city will have 1:1 coaching sessions on Wednesdays or Thursdays each week beginning September 11.

Note: This course is well suited for cities who are beginning their evaluation journey. We only require an interest in evaluation and a program you want to evaluate. Cities looking to deepen their evaluation experience may also participate in this course by forming more than one project team and scoping multiple evaluations at once.
